What is Link Popularity?

Link popularity is a combination of the number and the quality of the Web sites that link to your site. Zen Web Services understands that link development is absolutely essential to the success of your Website and is an important part of the optimization service that we offer.

Why is Link Popularity Important?

In an attempt to better determine the quality of content on Websites, over the last several years most major search engines have increased the importance of link popularity. Link popularity now plays an important role in improving the visibility of a web. Increasing the number of quality, relevant sites which link to your site can dramatically improve your search engine rankings. In addition, well placed links are an excellent source of consistent and targeted traffic.

The philosophy behind link popularity is that important Websites will attract more links and better links, and content-poor sites will have difficulty attracting both numbers of links and quality links.

A basic assumption of link popularity is that not all inbound links are equal. One inbound link from an important Website may equal in value to many links from obscure Websites. In other words, the quality of incoming links counts more than sheer numbers of them.

As part of our optimization program, we typically employ the following linking methods:
- One-way links from directories and other related sites
- Reciprocal link exchanges with related sites
- Fee-based directory submissions
- Targeted link buys

We may also offer the following services on a case-by-case basis:
- Article writing and submission to article directories
- Blog postings and/or creation
- Press release writing and submissions
- Social Media Optimization (SMO) and postings

Search engines such as Google even use a special link analysis system to help rank web pages.

Another important factor that's related to link popularity is anchor text. Anchor text is the text attached to a link that points to your site. In the link site map, for example, the anchor text consists of the words "site map."

Anchor text is an important clue that helps search engines determine the topic of the page that the the link leads to. But anchor text can be misused. If, for example the link says "For custom house plans click here," the search engines mistakenly think the topic of the page is "click here." If, however, the link says "click here for custom house plans," then the search engines can correctly assume the topic of the page is "custom house plans."
