• Building link popularity by linking to Websites with unrelated topics or to link farms.
  Fact: Building link popularity this way is cheap, but pointless. It won't provide targeted traffic and it won't help boost the sites ranking in the search engines.
• Submitting Websites to hundreds or even thousands of search engines.
  Fact: The top 4 search engines account for 97% of all searches. Focus on those.

These techniques are typically used by inexperienced or fly-by-night firms that try to “do it all” instead of specializing in SEO optimization.
